History Bulldog Design was founded by John Frank and Eric Kyte in 1975 as a multi-function vehicle for producing Interior, Graphic, Furniture,Toy and Lightfitting designs and manufacture The Company sprang from a well founded and successful Architectural Practice known as Gillinson Barnett who were based in Leeds and London and were influential and instrumental in the development of the design of Clubs from the earlier Dance Halls in the 60s and early 70s together with Shopping Centres now called Malls, ( Merrion Centre Leeds) Leisure Centres ( Bimingham Ice Rink, Rhyll Leisure Centre and Summerland Isle of Man) Bulldog Designs first prestigious project was the MILLIONAIRE nightclub in Manchester for Peter and Geoff Stringfellow, for whom John had created the first Twin-Scene club concept, Cinderellas-Rockerfellas in Leeds prior to creating Bulldog, and, following that, proceeded to to produce all types of job, from the design and manufacture of a single lightfitting to fully complete new buildings and everything in between and within. John Frank has been involved in leisure and licensed premises design from the early 60s introducing the SCAMPS discotheque chain to the UK with Star Associated Holdings together with the ubiquitous and unforgettable BIER KELLARS! He has seen it all and still has new ideas! Eric Kyte is a talented artist and graphic designer with a great flair for visualisation and concepts. After helping get Bulldog on its feet and running, he decided to spread his wings further and emigrated to the USA in the early 80s. John had already recruited a fellow director who had been in at the start, Graham Field, an experienced designer also from the Gillinson Barnett stable. By this time Bulldog had been responsible for a number of highly rated projects including Bibis restaurant, Get Stuffed and Lens Bar in Leeds, Palace Casino and Whispers on the Isle of Man, Southport Follies, Romeos & Juliets etc., etc., when along come the Stringfellow brothers again with a vacant car showroom near to Leicester Square and an ambition to create the best and most famous Club in the Country, if not the world!! Bulldog started the 80s with the completion of STRINGFELLOWS and went from strength to strength working up and down the country but the recession at the end of the decade hit hard and took its toll. In the early 90s it was touch and go as the order book ran dry. Eventually things began to pick up and Bulldog emerged leaner, fitter and hungry, but in 1994 Graham decided to do his own thing and John progressed on his own for a while until being rejoined by Jonathan Legge who had originally come to Bulldog in 1979 as an Architectural Technologist basically taking an Architects scheme and putting it into practice then departed in 1987 to gain a bit more diverse experience in other fields, returning in 1996 having obtained a Degree in Architecture and established his own practice. Bulldog has now been in existence now for over 25 years, John Frank has retired and Jon Legge has taken the reins. Nathan Legge, having finished at University doing Product Design, has joined and we are now working together in a totally different environment and on increasingly different projects.
